Topamax for anxiety and its side effects?
Today my doctor prescribed 25 mg of topamax to take at night for anxiety. I usually would not consider medication, except that it has I have had this anxiety disorder with a severe case of anorexia for two years now and regular therapy is simply not working for me. Has anyone had any success with this medication for their anxiety and what were some of the side effects you experienced?
Topamax is an anticonvulsant drug that is used in combination with other anti-seizure drugs for a variety of different kinds of seizures. Topamax is also used in a number of other conditions, including bipolar disorders and migraine headache. Topamax has been studied in combination with antidepressant drugs in patients with anxiety disorders.
To my knowledge, Topamax has not been studied when used alone for anxiety. The selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressants can cause weight gain. Topamax has been used to reduce the amount of weight gain seen with the use of SSRI antidepressants.Topamax may have a role in managing SSRI-induced weight gain in anxiety disorder patients.
