anxiety statistics in us
I am nervous about flying….?

I have flown many times, and I was never scared…..but I had a bad experience during my last flight (where I was sure the plane was crashing – like 99.9% sure it was all over). Anyway…..I have to fly later this month & I am stressing out. Someone suggested going to the doctor to get a prescription for flight anxiety – but the idea of being reliant of prescription meds freaks me out almost as much as the flight itself.

Any suggestions from fellow bad flyers? What helps you?
Dont say “listen to an ipod or read a magazine”….there is no way that will take my mind off the fact that I may plummet to the ground at any moment. haha

I know “you are more likely to die in a plane crash on the way to the airport”….but its not so much the dying part that scares me – that will be quick and painless – its the free falling and being totally out of control that freaks me out.

What are the yearly statistics for fatal commercial plane crashes in the US?

I’ll go with a statistical answer:

Since you already had an experience where you were 99.9% sure it was all over, you don’t have to worry about it anymore. The chances you’ll have another similar experience (or one where the plane actually crashes) is remarkably low. So don’t bother worrying about it.

The other thing is: Life is lethal. There’s no way to live without dying someday, just a simple reality. It’s just a matter of when. An asteroid could land on your head the next time you walk out of the house, so what would all that worrying about a plane crash be good for?
